Verify the contractor record
Use the California Contractors State License Board’s official lookup at the time you hire. Match the business name and license number on the proposal, confirm the classification and current status, and review any notices shown in the official record.
Confirm insurance evidence directly
Ask what insurance certificates apply to the proposed residential work and how current evidence can be confirmed. A logo, website sentence, or verbal statement is not a substitute for current documentation.
Separate material and labor warranties
Get the pipe-system manufacturer, covered components, registration steps, term, exclusions, transfer rules, claim contact, and contractor labor coverage in writing. Do not assume a product warranty also pays for access, labor, finishes, or damage.
Make the installation process reviewable
The written scope should identify included lines and fixtures, routing assumptions, access openings, surface protection, water-off windows, testing, cleanup, restoration responsibility, exclusions, and change-order approval.
Verify permits and inspections by address
Confirm the current approving authority, permit responsibility, inspection stages, correction process, and final record for the actual property address. Requirements and office procedures can change.
Collect a closeout packet before final sign-off
Keep the signed scope and changes, permit and inspection records, testing or commissioning notes, product information, warranty documents, photos supplied for closeout, final invoice, and contact path for a warranty question.
